How one nurse is balancing being a mom and fighting the COVID-19 pandemic
Megan is a Registered Nurse currently working in Salt Lake City, Utah. As both a nurse and a mother, she prides herself on her ability to care for her patients and her family to the best of her ability.
Megan loves everything about her job, and she’s proud to support the battle against COVID-19. She finds strength in the organization she works for, as they genuinely care about their employees and are taking every precaution necessary to ensure the safety of their patients and employees.

What made you choose your current career?
“Honestly, becoming a registered nurse was just a perfect fit for me.”
What are the typical responsibilities for someone in your position?
“Caring for patients. Medications, assessing, and making sure they are okay.”
Walk us through a day in your life. What does it look like?
“I am a nurse and a mother. I wake up and go to work. I care for my patients to the best of my ability. I can come home and be a Mom.”
How has the pandemic affected your work?
“We now have to take on-call hours. There is now added PPE required for our shift.”
What has been the most challenging aspect of your job in recent weeks?
“I feel that where I work, they care about their employees. The only thing I worry about is being exposed and bringing it home to my family.”
What do you appreciate most about your job?
“Everything. I love the people I work with, benefits, atmosphere, and environment.”
Where do you find the inspiration to endure this difficult period? What’s been your greatest source of strength?
“I look at New York. I mainly find strength in the organization I work for. They care and are taking every precaution. Everyone is in the same situation. I am just grateful that I have a job and that I can work and provide for my family.”
How do you find balance? What do you do to maintain your composure during stressful moments at work?
“The team I work with. My unit is truly a team, and we help each other in those moments.”
Any words of advice or inspiration you’d like to share with other healthcare workers who may be coping with similar challenges and responsibilities?
“We’ve got this. Everything has a way of working out one way or another.”
What advice would you share with the future generations of healthcare professionals, currently in school?
“You can do this. The struggle is worth it.”
